In machine tool transmission devices, commonly used transmission components include pulleys, gears, worm gears, gear racks and screw nuts, etc. These transmission components connect the power source to the actuator, or connect two actuators, which is called transmission connection. A series of sequentially arranged transmission components that constitute a transmission connection is called a transmission chain.
Transmission chains usually contain two types of transmission mechanisms: one type is a transmission mechanism with a fixed transmission ratio and direction, such as a fixed-ratio gear pair, a worm gear pair, etc., which is called a fixed-ratio transmission mechanism; the other type is a transmission mechanism whose transmission ratio and direction can be changed according to processing requirements, such as a stepped pulley speed change mechanism, a sliding gear speed change mechanism, etc., which is called a shifting mechanism.
According to the nature of the transmission connection, transmission chains can be divided into two categories:
1. Internal connection transmission chain: The motion (rotation and linear movement) of the actuators it connects belongs to an independent progressive motion according to motion analysis, so the relative motion relationship between the actuators has strict requirements. A transmission chain with this kind of transmission chain connection property is called an internal connection transmission chain. Therefore, internal connection transmission chains do not include transmission mechanisms with uncertain or instantaneous transmission ratio changes, such as belt drives, chain drives, and friction drives. For example, when machining threads on a lathe, the thread transmission connecting the main shaft and the tool holder is an internal connection transmission chain with strict requirements on the transmission ratio, which can ensure and obtain the required pitch of the thread.
2. External connection transmission chain: It is a transmission chain that connects the motion source and the machine tool actuator. It enables the actuator to obtain the predetermined speed of motion and transmits a certain amount of power, but it does not require a strict transmission ratio relationship between the motion source and the actuator. The change in the transmission ratio of the external connection transmission chain only affects the productivity and surface roughness, not the formation of the workpiece surface shape.

Short-pitch roller chains for transmission, double-pitch roller chains for transmission, bushing chains for transmission, heavy-duty bent-plate roller chains for transmission, toothed chains for transmission, stepless speed change chains, long-pitch conveyor chains, short-pitch roller conveyor chains, double-pitch roller conveyor chains, high-speed conveyor chains, plate chains.
Chain Limitations
As a common power transmission device, the chain, through the design of a hyperbolic arc "chain", reduces friction and is used in places with large power and slow running speed. It has obvious advantages over belt drives, such as tanks and pneumatic compressors, but the transmission speed cannot be too fast because the chain is not as flexible as a belt.
