In machine tool transmission devices, commonly used transmission components include pulleys, gears, worm gears, gear racks, and screw-nut pairs. These transmission components connect the power source to the actuator, or connect two actuators, which is called a transmission link. A series of sequentially arranged transmission components that constitute a transmission link is called a transmission chain.

Transmission chains typically contain two types of transmission mechanisms: one type is a transmission mechanism with a fixed transmission ratio and direction, such as a fixed-ratio gear pair or worm gear pair, called a fixed-ratio transmission mechanism; the other type is a transmission mechanism whose transmission ratio and direction can be changed according to processing requirements, such as a stepped pulley speed change mechanism or a sliding gear speed change mechanism, called a shifting mechanism.

According to the nature of the transmission link, transmission chains can be divided into two categories:

1. Internal Link Transmission Chain: The movements of the actuators it connects (rotation and linear movement) belong to an independent progressive movement according to motion analysis; therefore, the relative motion relationship between the actuators has strict requirements. Transmission chains with this type of transmission link property are called internal link transmission chains. Therefore, internal link transmission chains do not include transmission mechanisms with uncertain or instantaneous transmission ratio changes, such as belt drives, chain drives, and friction drives. For example, when machining threads on a lathe, the thread transmission connecting the main spindle and the tool rest is an internal link transmission chain with strict transmission ratio requirements, which ensures and obtains the required thread pitch.

2. External Link Transmission Chain: This is the transmission chain connecting the motion source and the machine tool actuator. It enables the actuator to obtain the predetermined speed of movement and transmit a certain amount of power, but it does not require a strict transmission ratio relationship between the motion source and the actuator. Changes in the transmission ratio of the external link transmission chain only affect productivity and surface roughness, not the formation of the workpiece surface shape.

Transmission short-pitch roller chains, transmission double-pitch roller chains, transmission bush chains, heavy-duty transmission bent-plate roller chains, transmission toothed chains, stepless speed change chains, long-pitch conveyor chains, short-pitch roller conveyor chains, double-pitch roller conveyor chains, double-speed conveyor chains, plate chains.

Chain Limitations
